 The audiometry (testing of hearing level) survey of 1,06,000 children between 6 - 15 years to detect uncomplained hearing impairment was carried out in last 20 years. This is the highest number of children screened by any organisation. The retired school teachers, educated retired senior citizens and high school passed individuals were trained as technicians. 16 % of private school children and 30 % of slum children revealed hearing impairment.
Majority of the causes were preventable and curable. Myths and beliefs related to ear conditions were removed during the counselling. The cost effective survey appreciated by W.H.O cost only Rs. 15 per child. We are appointed by the State Government for further screening. |
Activities of the Trust
As an out reach programme, we have planned vaccination project against Rubella. 30 % of all the handicapped children have the history of RUBELLA infection in their mothers during pregnancy as reported by Unicef, WHO and Government of India. RUBELLA is a viral infection. Also known as German Measles. RUBELLA results into irreversible deafness in the newborn with the result that speech does not develop in him and child becomes DEAF & MUTE.
Child may become Blind or Mentally subnormal. He may develop Heart abnormality and Liver damage. Project was inaugurated by M/s Raveena Tondon Permanant Centre for Rubella vaccination for the public operates once a week at our Centre
